In July, we attended the Working Dog Exhibition, where it was great to showcase the charity, connect with other organisations and businesses, and explore shared learning and future opportunities.
We were also pleased to be hosted at the German Shepherd Rescue Show (Scotland)—a special thank you to Simon (K9 Manhunt) and ScentWork Scotland for welcoming the SSD team and K9s. Our therapy dogs Mia and Clover were a real hit, and our drone technician Allan Gibson provided an insight into how we use drones to support search and rescue operations.
July also included important CPD achievements for the team: congratulations to Sally Smith on qualifying as an RYA Powerboat Handler Level 2, and to Shaun Ede for completing a Canine First Aid & CPR CPD session—supporting the welfare of our dogs at all times.
A big fundraising thank you to Jacqui at The Commercial Arms and Rod Stoddart for organising an event that raised £220 for the charity.
Finally, three of our HRD dogs—Vendetta, Ohfa, and Meth—supported a research project with MSc Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation students, focused on detecting graves of different ages. We’re proud to contribute to research that supports forensic understanding and helps us refine training goals to keep our teams effective and reliable in operational work.
