In August, our teams began specialist training in Ennerdale in challenging weather conditions, with heavy rain and strong winds adding to already demanding terrain. The weekend focused on tracking dog development and intensive Victim Recovery training, including structured work from the Last Known Position (LKP) / Initial Planning Point (IPP) to strengthen planning and deployment skills.
We were also grateful for two excellent presentations: Dr. Lorna Irish delivered an “Introduction to Decomposition,” and Sarah Sandle (Diverse Canine Consultancy) presented on canine cooperative care, sharing practical techniques to support welfare and performance.
Operationally, the team also worked hard across multiple locations in Wales, deploying eight search dogs with handlers and search technicians. Our sonar team and underwater drone unit supported the activity, helping ensure thorough coverage of the search areas.
